近年來韓國汽車在全球各主要市場大興其道，嚴重威脅其他國家車廠，而韓國的電產品同樣也是讓日本廠商有如芒刺在背，但是韓國的重工業早已在全球名列前矛，尤其是造船工業，而其中韓國最大的現代重工更是執牛耳地位。
據韓國現代重工表示，該公司在2005年12月所生產的船用大型引擎，總輸出功率達89萬馬力，，不但是該公司自1979年開始生產船用引擎以來之最高生產紀錄，同時也打破的單月引擎生產數的世界紀錄！
現代重工現今的大型船用引擎生產量，遠遠領先日本知名的三井重工的月生產量達三倍之多，而其生產量自2005年六月的76萬匹，在短短的6個月中成長17％，也是全球同業中的最佳紀錄。
