就在全球各大汽車集團，均紛紛於近期向外公開宣稱，將在三年內正式推出量產的燃料電池汽車之後，位於中國的北京現代，日前更對外宣稱在2010年以前現地生產中國製燃料電池汽車！
根據最新消息報導，北京現代在替代型燃料汽車領域，同HYUNDAI原廠積極前進的研究，最快將在2008年北京奧運開幕前出現初步的成果。
在2008年以前，第一批由北京現代生產的油電雙動力車款，將正式量產上市，此後並且將在2010年上海世博會開幕前，正式發表量產的燃料電池車款，這也將成為中外合資的汽車廠中，首度針對替代性能源汽車量產化最大的一次宣示。
除此之外，在傳統燃油汽車的部分，北京現在預計在2010年以前，每年都發表一款現地生產的新車，此舉預計將在中國平價乘用車市場引起相當大的震撼，據官方統計數據顯示，去年北京現代已經躍升成為全中國乘用車市場的第四大品牌，當時國產化的車款僅有HYUNDAI Elantra、Sonata與Tucson，最近在中國大陸更發表現地生產的Accent小型房車，以及整車進口的頂級房車旗艦Azera等等。
根據最新消息顯示，今年北京現代因為新車輩出，預計今年全年於中國大陸銷售的汽車將突破30萬輛的門檻，比起去年的23.4萬輛將有巨幅成長！
