據美國經濟日報指出，韓國車廠計畫要在HYUNDAI的Chennai組裝廠製造生產小型車，價格約為美金3500左右。印度HYUNDAI的負責人Ashok Jha指出，這些在印度生產的低成本汽車，將做為HYUNDAI未來在全球製造小型車的大本營。
「印度國內市場提供各種機會，以及在當地生產的通路。我們目前尚未決定這台車的外觀、大小、引擎和其他技術上的特定使用。但無論決定如何，這台車最後絕對是出自Chennai組裝廠。」Ashok Jha表示。HYUNDAI目前最便宜的車款是Santro，定價差不多在美金6503左右。
Jha強調印度Chennai組裝廠若要有效的推動營運，需要擴充組裝廠以求達到生產線正常運作。印度HYUNDAI總裁也向經濟日報證實全新掀背車i20，將會如期在十月於當地推出，並隨後在12月推出自排和柴油版i10，在外型上小於i20。至於Accent車款方面，也會在今年夏天添加CNG和LPG兩種版本。
HYUNDAI最近表示為了擴展在印度的發展，計畫要將觸角伸往當地的商用車市場。第一步就是要在2009年與其他企業合作興建巴士組裝廠。
