南韓車廠HYUNDAI最近宣佈將介入hybrid油電巴士產業，拓展其節能車的版圖。HYUNDAI剛於上星期宣佈要在2009年開始推出hybrid油電房車，現在更緊鑼密鼓地加快推動油電動力系統的速度，表示將推出一款價格合理又省油的市區巴士，使用HYUNDAI研發的hybrid「輕油電」科技。
HYUNDAI相信在商用車款上使用輕油電系統，能夠加快使用環保汽車的速度，進而減少二氧化碳廢氣排放量含燃料費。這套hybrid輕油電系統使用8KW AC馬達，當巴士處在靜止的狀態時會自動將引擎關閉，一旦駕駛放開剎車，也能迅速地發動引擎。正如同一般的油電系統，這也能在踩剎車時為汽車的電池充電。
這套輕油電系統能夠輕鬆應用在任何柴油或使用CNG的汽車上，成本相當於普通hybrid系統的五分之一。油電系統雖然能提高汽車油耗量50%，但價格過於昂貴，購買後需要經過很長一段時間才能回本，是致使許多消費者卻步的主因。
HYUNDAI計畫在四月初提供兩台市區巴士給Suwon大眾交通運輸公司，並在四月底提供另外十台巴士給Inmcheon公司。HYUNDAI希望在2009年底能力行大量生產油電巴士的計劃，並在年中完成hybrid油電系統的研發工作，預計在後半年便能順利推出正宗的全油電巴士。
