南韓第一大車廠HYUNDAI，為了要彌補鋼鐵和其他原料價格上漲的差距，宣佈要提高出口至美國的Elantra和Accent兩款小型車之價格。
HYUNDAI首爾發言人Jake Jang表示，車廠計劃自七月一日起，分別提高Elantra和Accent的價格300美元和200美元。根據HYUNDAI網站顯示，Accent在美國的基本售價是10775美元，Elantra則是13625美元。HYUNDAI上個月在美國1.3%的利潤成長，已被原料價格上漲侵蝕而所剩無幾。
南韓最大的鋼鐵製造商Posco已調漲鋼鐵價格63%來彌補原料價格的差異。其中熱軋鋼捲(hot-roll coils)的價格，自今年二月起已經調漲了三倍之多，每立方公噸現在要價796美元，這對車廠造成相當大的衝擊，因為熱軋鋼捲是車身和汽車零件的主要原料之一。
由於油價高漲的原故，美國對於小型節能車款的需求量也相對提高，HYUNDAI Accent小型車上個月在美國的預購量攀升70%，而Elantra的銷售量也成長50%。
