儘管全球金融風暴壞消息不斷，但韓國最大汽車集團HYUNDAI的擴張動作並未歇止，根據最新外電消息指出，韓國HYUNDAI日前已經正式簽約，準備建立海外第七個生產據點。
該據點就選定於巴西聖保羅，日前由HYUNDAI原廠海外市場營銷總監James Choi與巴西聖保羅州州長Jose Serra於聖保羅市正式簽約，HYUNDAI原廠計畫在該州境內建立全新的整車廠，預計在2011年竣工後設定每年新車年產量為十萬輛，未來該廠投產新車也將供應拉丁美洲的市場需求。
根據這項不久前簽訂的建廠計畫，HYUNDAI原廠將投資約新台幣194.05億元的資金，該廠將座落於聖保羅州境內的Piracicaba市，新廠動工儀式預計下月正式舉行，該市位於聖保羅市西北方約157公里的距離。
早從2006年起，韓國HYUNDAI原廠就開始在巴西當地找尋適合的場地，後來將設廠地點縮小至包括Minas Gerais與里約熱內盧等地 ，但最後由聖保羅州雀屏中選。
當然，因為巴西可以說是全球最大的彈性燃料汽車市場，所以在該廠竣工後第一輛投產新車，將搭載可使用汽油或酒精做為燃料的中小型乘用新車，這款新車確定將在該廠初期竣工後 於2011年第一季投產，而中小型乘用車更佔南美洲新車銷售的六成，而且當地也將因此增加達四千個工作機會。
