世界第二大汽車市場中國的經濟成長漸趨緩滿，但南韓車廠HYUNDAI在星期日表示，他們有信心將在2009年提高中國汽車銷售量22%。受到北京推動小型車銷售量的法規加持，KIA也表示2009年汽車銷售量將會提高30%。
「在經濟成長減速和營業稅調降的影響下，我們預測中國消費者對小型車的需求量將會提高。」HYUNDAI在對外發佈的聲明中指出。中國汽車銷售量成長率在去年減速至個位數字，在全球經濟不景氣的影響下，中國的經濟成長也受到連累，2008年創下十年來成長率最低的紀錄。
中國最近頒佈一連串的法令，希望能藉此刺激買氣，吸引消費者重回汽車展示間。這些法令當中也包括所有引擎小於1.6 升的車款營業稅減半的規定。北京HYUNDAI是由HYUNDAI和北汽控股(Beijing Automotive Industry Holdings)共同掌管，2008年創下294508輛的汽車銷售量，預計今年銷售量為36萬輛汽車。
另一家南韓車廠KIA在去年的銷售量為142008輛汽車，預計2009年要賣出18.5萬輛汽車。今年一月北京HYUNDAI的銷售量與去年同月相比，成長35%至42790輛汽車，KIA則比去年同月成長15%。不過車廠發言人指出，若以中國整體市場來看，一月的汽車銷售量比去年同月下滑13%。
