在本屆2009上海國際車展上首演的北京現代BT-01中大型房車原型，是以HYUNDAI EF Sonata中大型房車為基礎，由中韓合資雙方在北京現代建立的設計中心自主設計的作品，根據最新消息指出，由於在車展會場引起相當熱烈的迴響，所以北京現代計畫將BT系列自主設計車系擴張，並且計畫引進更多HYUNDAI i系列新車國產化！
根據最新消息指出，北京現代BT-01將成為第一款完全自主設計車款的領頭洋，在原本結合中韓合資雙方資源推出的國產車系包括「悅動Elantra HDC」、「領翔NF Sonata NFC」新車，在推出之後於當地市場不但締造銷售佳績，而且更讓韓國原廠深切瞭解當地市場消費需求與口味，所以更強化未來北京現代設計中心發展的計畫與地位的重要性，所以北京現代將可能提前推出後續BT-02與BT-03新車。
在此同時，於本屆2009上海國際車展會場首度於當地消費者介面的國產化HYUNDAI i30原型掀背五門新車，未來上市後的市場表現，將關係著將來北京現代導入原廠HYUNDAI i系列其他新車的計畫，若HYUNDAI i30國產掀背新車銷售表現優異，緊接著北京現代將會加速國產化HYUNDAI i10與i20的進度。
此外，國產化HYUNDAI i30掀背新車，確定將在今年2009廣州國際車展開幕前夕的十月份正式發售，售價將比照現行北京現代伊蘭特悅動房車。
另外，在本屆2009上海國際車展亮相的概念車Ix-onic概念跨界休旅新車，預計最快將在明年量產後導入北京現代國產，而北京現代計畫投產這款新車之後，原本現行國產化的跨界休旅車途勝Tucson也將持續銷售。
