美國國家公路安全管理局NHTSA（National Highway Traffic Safety Administration）近日開始著手調查，關於2012年式HYUNDAI Elantra的車輛安全問題，上市不久後，即有車主投訴，說其車輛的側簾式防護氣囊傷害駕駛人，造成駕駛人的耳朵被劃破的事故情況。

NHTSA表示，他們要調查目前已售出的12萬輛2012年式HYUNDAI Elantra車型中，是否也有發生類似情形。根據投訴的車主表示，在不久前發生車禍時，位於駕駛座旁的側簾式防護氣囊爆開時，連同其中的金屬零件也會跟著一起彈出，在彈出的同時，也把駕駛人的耳朵以及臉部給削去一大半了。根據車主提供的照片顯示，從駕駛座左側邊緣上方伸出一個突起的金屬零件，這也就是造成這次意外的源頭。

NHTSA指出，看起來是金屬零件劃傷了駕駛人的耳朵和臉部，我們將對HYUNDAI Elantra車型進行評估調查，瞭解是否具有安全方面的憂慮，但目前還尚未提出召回的決定。HYUNDAI方面則發佈一份聲名表示，這起事故是特例案件，因為其他2012年式Elantra車型並沒有發生相關狀況，也沒有收到任何的受傷訊息，但是會配合NHTSA的調查。

HYUNDAI對其產品的控管與品質檢測上，需要多加強與謹慎才是。這項消息是發生在北美地區，而國內導入的HYUNDAI Elantra車型並無配備側簾式防護氣囊，因此台灣並不會受到影響。
