相較於轎車的低底盤設定與較短的懸吊行程,在行駛過程中,可以保持低重心,因此擁有較佳的操控感受;反觀人高馬大的SUV,由於重心較高,因此操控起來左右搖晃就更為明顯,特別是在過彎時駕駛容易感覺車身側傾,不只影響車身動態表現,對於乘坐者而言也相對不舒適。

為了解決SUV重心偏高的問題,但又要兼顧SUV的越野性能,車廠除了針對懸吊方面下工夫,強化懸吊的回饋力道外,也會盡量將引擎設置放低藉此降低重心,不過這些都僅是車身機械結構上的調整,雖然最實際但總有上限,若能搭配電子配備從旁輔助,方能事半功倍。

因此,各家車廠也特別針對旗下SUV車型開發相對應的電子系統,而HYUNDAI一套名為ROP(Roll Over Prevention)車身防傾保護系統,便是針對旗下Santa Fe、ix35等高底盤SUV車型。

當進行高速或連續過彎時,ROP系統內的側向加速感知器與舵角感知器便會啟動,進行車輛側傾角度的偵測,當系統發現車輛有突然轉向或翻覆可能時,系統便會介入將動力輸出降低,並加深煞車力道,抑制車身側傾幅度,以避免車輛翻覆之狀況。
