    名車列傳(273):HYUNDAI Presto/Excel(1985-1989)

隨著Pony的成功,HYUNDAI再接再厲地於1985年推出Presto/Excel,前者為傳統四門房車,後者則是三門/五門掀背造型,當然這也成為HYUNDAI當時進軍北美市場的主力產品。

基於與MITSUBISHI仍有著技術合作,Presto/Excel方正格局的內裝鋪陳和Pony神似,為了提升在市場上的競爭力,特地將空調、卡式錄音帶音響主機列為標準配備,頂級車型更配置電動窗和電子鐘,不過嚴格來說中控台等零組件都和MITSUBISHI Mirage/Lancer共用,HYUNDAI本身僅進行小規模修飾。

動力部分均來自MITSUBISHI,標準版為1238cc直列四缸SOHC單化油器引擎,獲得80hp/6300rpm馬力和10.8kgm/4000rpm扭力,頂級排氣量則為1468cc,在同為SOHC與單化油器的結構下,為了通過更嚴苛的法規,馬力下調至72hp/5500rpm,但扭力卻增加至11.3kgm/3500rpm。兩具引擎皆可和三速自排或五速手排變速箱組合。前麥弗遜、後拖曳臂懸吊和前碟後鼓煞車為全車系標配。

由於Presto/Excel的成功,並替HYUNDAI打響名號,因此原廠決定開發後繼車,並將之視為世界戰略要角,同時也統一車名為Excel,於1989年推出第二代產品。
