鞏固電池來源，HYUNDAI集團有意與LG Chem於印尼成立合資企業

有鑑於電動車已成為全球車壇的主要未來趨勢，各汽車製造商早已紛紛開始針對當中最為重要的零組件─「電池」的供應穩定度，來進行相關的布局。身為全球大型汽車集團的HYUNDAI，也開始進行更加積極的動作，近日更傳出有意與同是韓國企業的LG Chem，於印尼成立專門製造電池的合資企業。
由於現階段雙方仍處於初期討論階段，所以投資規模與產能都尚未確定，但據傳LG集團會長具光謨與現代汽車執行副會長鄭義宣已經當面針對未來包括電動車電池在內的領域合作進行了相關討論，同時兩集團也都證實了這次的雙方會談，但也表示並未對合資企業做出任何決定，在印尼的合資企業也尚未進行具體的討論。
不過，HYUNDAI在與電池製造商攜手成立合資公司這方面，已經是相對較晚的後進者，而其潛在的合作夥伴LG Chem早已與包括GM集團、中國吉利汽車成立了合資企業。不過，雙方的合作是有更進一步的基礎，畢竟目前HYUNDAI汽車所使用的電池就是由LG Chem提供，而在全球政府大力管制碳排量並對電動車進行補貼的情況下，電動車的銷量預計將會持續增長，雙方沒有理由不讓彼此的合作更進一步。
