HYUNDAI第一台油電車這個7月，即將在南韓環保登場，並計畫在明年進軍美國，HYUNDAI想要與世界各大車廠較勁的意味濃厚。為了鞏固自己在油電車市場的地位，HYUNDAI計畫在2012年底於美國推出一款插電式油電跑車，以跨世紀的流線造型，一舉擄獲消費者的心。
HYUNDAI美國執行長John Krafcik在3月為Blue-Will插電式油電概念車揭幕時，曾稍稍透露車廠有意推出插電式油電跑車版本。Krafcik更表示，任何以Blue-Will為雛形的車款，都極有可能進軍北美市場。現在這項消息已獲得證實，並鎖定TOYOTA Prius和CHEVROLET Volt為主要的競爭對手，計畫在2012年於美國推出。
「我們想要成為研發汽車節能技術的佼佼者，」車廠研發部主任Yang Woong-chul表示。「我們力求表現自我，並提升產品形象。」Yang更強調，車廠推出油電車的目的，旨不在賺錢。Blue-Will在概念階段時，使用由HYUNDAI南韓研發中心一手打造的插電式油電動力系統，包括1.6L四缸汽油引擎，以及專為前輪輸出電力的電池組，單靠電力可行駛40英里的距離，與CHEVROLET Volt不相上下。
