一台車開15年以上能省多少錢？

據消費者報告調查發現，一台車若能使用15年以上，亦或累積22.5萬英里的里程數，車主可以省下31000美元，差不多台幣近百萬元。所節省下的費用，是以平均每五年買一台新車的價格下去計算。

大多數的人都難逃喜新厭舊的心態，若經濟情況許可，調查發現車主們平均每五年會有換車的衝動。消費者報告在一年一度的全美汽車調查中發現，有6769位讀者的汽車已經累積超過20萬英里的里程數，這些汽車包括1990年的LEXUS LS400和1994年的FORD Ranger。

而其中LS400最多累積了33.2萬英里，FORD Ranger則行駛超過48.8萬英里。若以15年為限，每五年換一台全新HONDA Civic EX來計算，並將貶值、稅金、養車費用以及保險考慮進去，消費者報告計算出這比駕駛原本的車款還要多耗費2.05萬美元。此外若將錢放入銀行裡，也會多賺1.03萬美元的利息。

不過想要突破20萬英里大關，可不是每台車都能勝任的事情，而最主要的關鍵就是車主是否有做好保養工作。不過一台車開越久雖然越省錢，但對環境所造成的汙染也成正比卻是不爭的事實，因此妥善保養汽車不只是對自己有益，也是在對大環境負責。消費者報告建議想要讓汽車壽命長長久久的車五，遵循以下五大法則 :

(1) 按照汽車保養手冊行事，並且定時做好保養。
(2) 使用建議使用的油品
(3) 經常檢查引擎蓋下得機械運轉情況。觀察是否有出現怪聲，或是出現不正常的味道。
(4) 仔細清理汽車的裡裡外外，不只是為了維持汽車的乾淨外貌，同時也能提早發現是否有生鏽的痕跡。
(5) 最後，也是最重要的 : 購買一台安全可靠的汽車。車上最好配有最先進的安全配備。

消費者報告也介紹讀者一些他們眼中「安全可靠」的車款，也就是最有可能突破20萬英里的汽車，這些車款大多來自HONDA和TOYOTA，其中只有FORD Ranger異軍突起，在清一色的日系汽車中嶄露頭角。這些車子分別是HONDA Civic、HONDA CR-V、HONDA Element、LEXUS ES、LEXUS LS、TOYOTA 4Runner、TOYOTA Highlander、TOYOTA Land Cruiser、TOYOTA Prius，以及TOYOTA RAV4。
