    名車列傳(274):HYUNDAI Stellar(1983-1991)

早在與MITSUBISHI技術合作之前,HYUNDAI可是藉由生產FORD Cortina 奠定基礎,而既然有了Pony的成功案例與經驗,使得HYUNDAI在1983年推出第一款自行開發的中型房車Stellar,雖然造型委託義大利喬治亞羅設計,不過底盤仍來自Cortina Mk V,引擎則由MITSUBISHI提供。

如果與Pony、Presto/Excel相比,Stellar的造型就顯得更為成熟洗鍊,擁有2580mm軸距的底盤源自FORD Cortina MkV,同樣屬於前置引擎後輪驅動設定,而車體並非沿用Cortina Mk V,而是請喬治亞羅設計並由HYUNDAI重工打造,雖說4415×1715×1370mm的身形仍有Cortina的影子,但已算是全新自行設計創作。不過因HYUNDAI當時尚無自行研發的能力,因此引擎和變速箱則全部來自日本MITSUBISHI。不過內裝鋪陳和設計仍保有Cortina Mk V的影子,當然HYUNDAI也盡全力投入設計,同時在配備部分也全面強化升級,包含遙控行李廂、頂級音響、電動窗、空調等均列入清單中,希望能以物超所值打動消費者。

動力方面共有MITSUBISHI的1.4 L (4G33,1493cc,92hp/6300prpm、12.5kgm/4000rpm)、1.6 L (4G32,1597cc,75hp/5200rpm、14.0kgm/4000rpm) 與2.0L(4G63,1997cc,92hp/5500rpm、16.0kgm/4750rpm)等三具直列四缸單化油器引擎,並配置五速手排與三速自排兩種變速箱,初期懸吊採用前雙A臂、後四連桿結構,1987年則變更為前麥弗遜、後四連桿設計,因此在舒適性與操控性部分獲得更進一步提升。雖說Stellar為當時的旗艦,但煞車系統則仍維持Pony的前碟後鼓設計。

1988年雖然展新的Sonata正式登場,但HYUNDAI仍生產Stellar直到1991年,爾後HYUNDAI未再推出後輪驅動房車,直到2009年發表的Genesis後才再度採用這種驅動模式。
